Emperor Penguins Breeding Patterns
Emperor Penguins will breed in May and lay 1 egg. The female will go off to find food at sea and leave it with the male. The male will not be able to eat for 9 months. They keep the egg between their feet because it is warm between layers of skin and feathers, and for warmth from winds. They are kept in what is called Brood Pouch, and after the egg has hatched the penguin will still need to stay in the Brood Pouch until they have their own body temperature. The breeding cycle for Emperor Penguins will occur during autumn and around April and May. Once the ice forms again packs of Penguins will come back to the same area.
Habitat
Emperor Penguins habitats are usually on the edges or surrounded by water, since they need water for food and to live. They will spend winter on the open ice though. When there are harsh weather conditions they will often stay together in packs and huddle around to keep warm. The Emperor penguins all live in the Artic and around part of the Southern Hemisphere as no penguins out of all types live in the Northern Hemisphere. Abiotic factors about their habitat are the sea, ice and snow.
Different Species of Penguins
Different types of penguins include the Adelie Penguins which are found in groups on beaches and around the Antarctic Coast. Other examples are Gentoo penguins which are found on sub-Antarctic islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. They are also found in South Georgia, Falkland Island and Iles Kerguelen.
