How and what do they feed on?
When the Emperor Penguins catch their prey, the penguins don’t have teeth so their spikes in their throat will kill the fish so they can digest it easier. This is how they feed. Emperor penguins have a different diet to most other penguins because they don’t eat krill they eat fish, squid and crustaceans when they go on their dives. The Emperor Penguins also drink the ocean water. The penguins will push one of the penguins in to see if there are any seals and if it gets eaten. If it doesn’t they will feed.

Physical Features
Most species of penguins spend about 75% of their lives in the ocean. This means they need to be able to adapt to sea conditions. They rarely come out of the water and that is for reasons like moulting and breeding. An Emperor Penguin is the largest of all types of penguins at an average height of 1.1metres and weight of 27-41kg. The Emperor Penguin has a black head, chin and the throat. They have yellow patches around their ears on either side of the head. They adapt to the conditions because their feet are webbed and their legs are strong. These help with the penguins swimming because they are like flippers.

How it Protects Itself
The Emperor Penguin protects itself by one of its most destructive predators, the Leopard Seal in some ways. Although not always. All they do to protect themselves is just avoiding going near the seals. As if they see once they will go in the opposite direction. Once they get caught they can’t be protected anymore. Ways the Emperor Penguins can protect themselves from killer whales are using their speed and agility. They can swim much faster than killer whales; they will often zigzag through the ocean because whales are not very fast when turning. Then they can get back onto land and walk away as they would now be safe because the killer whales won’t go on the land.
